Dejen Media (July 31) In a statement he made during a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Eritrean President Isaias Afewerki accused NATO of waging a war on Russia and attempting to dominate the world. The two leaders held discussions, addressing the geopolitical landscape, the Russia-Ukraine situation, and the broader global challenges.

President Afewerki expressed his views on the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, rejecting the notion of a “Russian-Ukraine war” or a conflict between the two nations. Instead, he asserted that the war has been declared by NATO on Russia, with the goal of global domination. According to him, the war is part of an agenda that was conceived after the end of the Cold War, with the aim of containing not just Russia but any powerful nation that poses a challenge to NATO’s dominance.

During the meeting, President Afewerki highlighted that Russia had not adequately prepared to face this declared war, even though it was aware of the dynamics at play within NATO. He further emphasized that Ukraine was a sacrifice and price that NATO sought to impose on Russia, with the alliance willing to invest billions, if not trillions, to continue the war.

The Eritrean President went on to describe the conflict in Ukraine as a part of a broader strategy to defeat Russia and realize hegemony over the entire world. He opined that the ongoing crisis in Ukraine was just one phase of this strategy and cautioned that NATO’s ambitions would likely extend to containing China next.

President Afewerki also urged the global community to recognize this situation as a declared war on Russia rather than a mere territorial conflict. He asserted that Russia needs to lead the effort to strategize and counter the hegemonistic ambitions of NATO and its allies.

He pointed out the urgency in creating a new financial architecture globally, one not controlled by the Euro or the dollar, to counter NATO’s use of the monetary system and sanctions as weapons. Additionally, he stressed the need to implement alternative strategies that promote peace, development, and cooperation.

President Afewerki lauded the partnership between Eritrea and Russia and emphasized Russia’s historic mission to play a crucial role in global affairs. He acknowledged President Putin as a leader who can help address the challenges posed by NATO’s actions.

The Eritrean President concluded by expressing his commitment to making contributions towards facing the declared war on Russia. He also highlighted Eritrea’s strategic plans for various sectors, including infrastructure, energy, and human resource development, which align with the overall goal of promoting development and self-reliance.

The meeting between President Afewerki and President Putin serves as a platform to build a united front against perceived hegemonic aspirations and discuss strategies for a new world order. As the global community watches developments closely, the focus remains on how nations will collectively address the unfolding geopolitical dynamics and chart a path towards a more equitable and stable international system.
