Happy New Year: A Message of Optimism and Caution
As we welcome 2025 with hope and dreams, I want to share a few words of optimism and caution. This year marks the beginning of one of the most consequential times in human history. This is not a prophecy but a belief based on deep insights into what lies ahead for humanity.
Artificial intelligence will take center stage like never before. What we have witnessed in the last two years is just the tip of the iceberg. Sooner rather than later, most people will realize that what they have seen and felt are merely the trailers of the whole movie. Believe it or not, the full versions of AI have not yet been revealed. In 2025, we will start to see the release of these full versions in trickles, with significant implications.
I am excited to inform you that I am opening a new chapter. For the last two years, I have been quietly working on an impactful project related to AI. I believe this project will have a profound impact for the better. Groundbreaking truths will be revealed, and the world’s most powerful players in technology will be challenged in unprecedented ways by the very powers they have created but masked as tools.
I have already been scaling down my work related to Ethiopia. It is unfortunate to see that the country, under the reckless leadership of Abiy Ahmed, is descending into chaos and hopelessness. The man who started his term of office with angelic songs of praise for peace and unity has turned out to be the devil incarnate as a bloody tyrant. Sadly, Ethiopian politics has proven to be a destructive game of thrones, lacking the decency and intelligence needed to create an orderly nation governed by the rule of law. I hope that those seriously committed to bringing about change to our homeland will do so with utmost sincerity and responsibility beyond ethnic and sectarian divisions. After all, a nation needs unity to survive and live in peace.
In 2025, I will be focused on groundbreaking investigative journalism and advocacy related to AI. The warning of an impending existential risk due to myopic business and commercial interests is more realistic than we can imagine. The choice is clear for all of us: watch helplessly from the sidelines or take action to reverse the risks.
More than being an Ethiopian by birth and an American by citizenship, I consider myself a global citizen. I care about the human race. I’ve chosen to do whatever it takes to raise awareness, leveraging the power of truth. In the next few days, I will start unveiling secrets on what is in store for humanity. Believe it or not, the future is not just about humanity. It is also about AI, as the genie is already out of the bottle. It is up to us to harness its immense potential and manage the existential risks.
