Samedia, Dec. 6–Elon Musk’s AI company, xAI, has made its Grok chatbot available for free to all users starting today. Grok, which was developed to compete with leading generative AI chatbots , is now accessible to users on the X platform, marking a significant shift.

The news of Grok’s free availability didn’t come as a shock to some observant users who had noticed the company offering free limited access to the chatbot in recent weeks. Musk has touted Grok as the most free speech-forward chatbot, contrasting it with competitors like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which he has criticized for being too “woke” and restricting discussions on sensitive topics.

Grok distinguishes itself not only through its more liberal conversational boundaries but also by including a text-to-image generation feature capable of producing more explicit images upon request. However, this freedom comes with certain limitations. Users must have an X account that is over a week old and linked to a phone number. Additionally, interactions with Grok are capped at 10 requests every two hours, and users are limited to three image analysis questions per day.

For those eager to experience Grok, the chatbot can be accessed via the X website or app. On the website, users can select Grok from the sidebar, or visit it directly. In the app, Grok can be found in the bottom bar next to the search tool.

This release underscores Musk’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of AI while fostering an environment that prioritizes free speech. As users begin to explore Grok’s capabilities, the AI community will undoubtedly be watching closely to see how this new tool influences conversations and content creation.
