Dejen Media, August 1–In the face of a series of setbacks in the Amhara region, the Public Relations Directorate of the Federal Defense Forces has issued a statement to clarify the army’s engagement with Amhara Fano. Colonel Getnet Adane, the army’s spokesman, addressed concerns and rumors surrounding the military’s current standing during the recent briefing.
Colonel Getnet asserted that those who believe the army remains stagnant in its approach are misinformed. He emphasized the army’s progressive nature and its commitment to fulfilling multifaceted duties. In response to the resistance posed by Amara Fano groups, which are opposing the government’s efforts to disarm and suppress them, the army is intensifying its actions against these factions.
The army’s spokesman also acknowledged a wide-scale defamation campaign launched by those who were unable to resist the military’s operations. He offered an explanation regarding the action being taken against the armed groups operating in both the Amhara and Oromia regions.
Colonel Getnet highlighted the intensification of military operations aimed at eradicating Shene in Oromia and Fano in Amhara regions. He noted that the conflict on the ground in the Amhara region has sparked a massive defamatory media campaign against the army.
Moreover, Colonel Getnet mentioned an incident where army members were attacked while en route to evaluate the annual performance of the North West of Gondar. The attackers fired upon the army members when they were approximately 2 kilometers from Chuhit. Simultaneously, in the Koladba area, the military personnel faced another attack.
In response to such challenges, the army has been actively engaged with the local community, youth, and elders to resolve the situation. As part of this effort, the army has lifted the closure and extended an amnesty.
The statement by the Public Relations Directorate seeks to dispel confusion and misinformation about the army’s activities in the Amhara region, shedding light on their ongoing efforts to address security challenges and maintain stability.
