Sept 13, (EVN) — A senior leader of the southern zone of Tigray has been shot dead.. Sources revealed that Mr. Samson Teferi, a prominent senior leader, met a tragic end on September 1, 2016, around 9:30 p.m.
Mr. Samson Teferi had held the position of Maichiau City’s mayor for three years, starting from October 21, 2012, prior to his untimely demise. He also served as the head of social affairs in the southern zone of Tigray, a position he retained until the moment.
According to sources, Mr. Samson had been actively involved in various levels of regional government affairs over the years. However, the suspected assailant responsible for his death remained at large as of the time of this report.
The assassination of Mr. Samson Teferi serves as a grim reminder of the pressing security concerns facing Tigray region which has been increasingly lawless. The Interim Administration of Tigray, Getachew Reda, admitted last week that the security situation is highly concerning not only to the people but to those who enjoy security details.
